Brother Knights, as we enter the final stretch of the election season, and with the upcoming November general election only a few weeks away, it is crucial to remember the importance of being informed constituents who exercise our right to vote. As Knights, we are not only Catholic citizens, but also play an active role in shaping our communities and holding our elected officials accountable.
In order to assist our members in fulfilling their duty of faithful citizenship, the Knights of Columbus has compiled guidelines for political activity. These guidelines are designed to help us to effectively navigate the political landscape with the integrity and respect befitting a Brother Knight.

The 96th Ultrasound unit dedication took place on Tuesday, August 20th at Options Pregnancy Center in Alpena. This Ultrasound placement was made possible through the commitment and leadership of Thunder Bay Council #6851 members and twelve other Knights of Columbus councils. About half of the funds were raised during the Posen Potato Festival in 2022. During the summer of 2022 Options Pregnancy Center purchased a new building, which required renovations to accommodate the Ultrasound unit. Special thank you to Gerald Boerner, Grand Knight, Council #6851 and other members who donated 580 hours to the building renovation.

Armed with the Faith: the Knights of Columbus and the Military
Ever since the Order was established in 1882, our Brother Knights of Columbus have been at the forefront of every U.S. military action. There exists a strong connection between the values of military service and the principles of the Knights, and the Order has consistently shown unwavering support for the armed forces.
This rich history is honorably portrayed in an award-winning 40-minute documentary titled "Armed with the Faith: The Knights of Columbus and the Military."
See the video here .
Since 2013, the Knights of Columbus has partnered with the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, (AMS) to sponsor the annual Warriors to Lourdes Pilgrimage.

The Warriors to Lourdes is a week-long retreat in which pilgrims take part in several spiritual activities, including an opening ceremony, special Masses, visits to the baths at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, and a candlelight vigil.
U.S. service members currently on active duty, recently retired, or honorably discharged are encouraged to submit an application to attend this life-changing retreat at absolutely no cost.
We will post information about future retreats as it becomes available. Thank you!
Assembly 2050 To Be A Patriot

As you know, the principle of the Fourth Degree of our Order is Patriotism. The Fourth Degree conducts an annual "To Be A Patriot" Program for the purpose of recognizing outstanding patriotic activities and programs performed by our brother Knights.
The Msgr Herman P. Fedewa #2050 Assembly's program for 2023-2024 was “Save On to Heal Another." This program entails rescuing dogs destined for euthanasia, and training them to be highly skilled service dogs to at-risk veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress and / or brain injuries.
Earlier this year, Assembly #2050 received word that their program was selected as the best "To be a Patriot" program within the KofC Hennepin Province, encompassing all of Michigan and Ohio. Earlier in August, they received word that Supreme selected the program as their International Program of the Year, once again bringing honor to the Knights of the Assembly, and by extension the Knights of the jurisdiction of Michigan!

Too many of our veterans suffer from the effects of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). They commonly have deep feelings of isolation, separation and lack of support. These feeling too often drive veterans to suicide. For the Sir Knights of the Msgr. Fedewa Assembly #2050 (Fedewa Assembly), this was a call to action, and the Sir Knights of the Fedewa Assembly decided to “answer the call.”
But how?
We found a way! We discovered Blue Star Service Dogs, (Blue Star).

Blue Star is an organization located in our Assembly’s “back yard” of Pinckney, Michigan. Blue Star provides service dogs for veterans suffering from (PTSD) and brain injuries.
We found that in collaboration with the councils that make up our Assembly, great things can happen! In this Fraternal Year alone, our Sir Knights from Council 12295, 7304, and the Michigan District 2 raised $11,574.85 for Blue Star! This was in addition to “boots on the ground” volunteer hours supporting Blue Star operations.

Our Support of Blue Star has resonated throughout our Assembly area, and has been manifested in a boost membership recruitment. When patriotic Catholic men learn of the “rescuing one to heal another” program we support, they are inspired to become Knights and continue their journey to become Sir Knights as well.
