Knight of the Month, February: Terry Dishneau
Terry was named Knight of the Month for the many ways he unselfishly serves. He is the heart and soul of the KofC Parking Lot attendants virtually every time the parish requests our council's help. He not only pitches in on the regular council schedule for serving Sunday Coffee& Donuts, but also takes care of handling the donated printer cartridges. Terry is one of the Knights taking turns at the KofC Adoration Hour (1:00am on Saturday mornings).
Family of the Month, February: Alfredo & Debbie Abolio family.
Not only is Al the elected Advocate for our Council, but he regularly serves at our council's Sunday Coffee & Donuts. Al also is helping with Alpha setup and takedown, as well as such Alpha food service tasks as needed. Debbie is an active member of the Secular Carmelite (OCDS) group here. With some of their children being active in LifeTeen, Al welcomes our teens as they arrive for LifeTeen, as well as people arriving for Alpha. One of their sons has been active as an Adult Server at Sunday Masses, and Al is one of our ushers.

The Knights of Christ the King Council #13360 will be holding our Spring M.I. Drive. On Palm Sunday weekend, March 23 - 25, the Knights from our council can be found at Busch's Market in Ann Arbor near the corner of Plymouth and Green. We will be collecting donations to raise money for those with special needs and will be handing out Tootsie Rolls.
In addition, after the Masses this past weekend at Christ the King, the Knights handed out banks of Tootsie Rolls to those who wanted them. The Knights hope that everyone enjoys the free Tootsie Rolls and encourage all to prayerfully consider returning the Tootsie Roll bank with a donation to support those with special needs.

The season of Lent is upon us. As we prepare to celebrate Holy Week, we can take this time to reflect on our lives and scrutinize our own weaknesses and flaws. We can turn to God to help us become better husbands, fathers, and friends.
One thing I'm reflecting on is my friendships with other men. As men, we yearn to be needed, useful, and wanted. The friendships we have are based on what we have in common with others; occupation, hobbies, families, etc. Our friends can make us laugh at a shared joke, and cry at the hardships of life. We learn from our friends where to get the best pizza, and how to adjust to life's challenges. I don't know anyone who has too many friends.
The thing I keep going over during my prayer time is - am I a good friend?
Here is a brief list of the questions for reflection:
1. Do my friends look to me as a man of virtue?
2. Can my friends rely on me?
3. Do I make my friends feel they are important?
4. Would I endure hardship for my friends?
As I go to the different council meetings, I am always impressed by the friendships I see in each council. Men concerned about the good of the others. The world is a lonely place, and we need to show the men in our communities that being a Knight will lead to true friendship. During this Lent, reach out to that man in the parish that needs friendship.

This year, the Knights of Council #13360 helped with the Baby Bottle Boomerang fundraiser, where "spare change" is donated to support the work of Family Life Services in Ypsilanti. The Knights were present after Masses at Christ the King a couple weeks ago to help distribute the empty baby bottles and again last weekend to help collect the full baby bottles.
If you haven't returned your Baby Bottle yet, please bring it and your donation to any Mass this weekend at Christ the King. Family Life Services and the Knights of Council #13360 would like to thank all for your generous donations!

On Tuesday, February 27, Council #13360 hosted our annual "Desert Meal" fundraiser to raise money for seminarians at Sacred Heart Major Seminary for the upcoming pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Rome. This pilgrimage, made by Seminarians finishing their First Year Theology, is an opportunity for these young men to walk in the footsteps of Jesus and the Apostles. Those who attended enjoyed a meal prepared by the Knights of Council #13360.
Our guests this year were Mark Martin II and Miguel Colunga from the Diocese of Lansing. Mark and Miguel shared more about this pilgriamage and each shared their own vocations story with those present.
Donations to Sacred Heart Major Seminary on behalf of the seminarians' pilgrimage are tax deductible.

Council 13360 - Council #13360 - 2017 Humanitarian Award Presentation
By: Mark Tepen -
Sat, Feb 24, 2018 3:30 AM
On February 11, the Christ the King Council #13360 Humanitarian Award was presented to Michele Hufnagel. This award, in memory of our late brother, David L. Koehler, is awarded to the individual, family, or group that exemplifies, in their actions or projects, the treatment of all human beings with dignity.
Dave Koehler (1941-2008) was a Knight of Columbus and a key member of the group of Christ the King parishioners who worked to make fellow parishioners aware of the needs of those in our parish who are developmentally-disabled or similarly in need. He strove to encourage fellow parishioners to look with kindness and respect upon such people, and to avoid the natural tendency to ignore such people. His efforts were tragically cut short by his death in April, 2008. Dave’s brother Knights of Columbus at CTK have established this award to honor his memory and to continue, in some small way, the work which he had begun.
Michele Hufnagel works to assist the Parish religious education program to effectively incorporate children with developmental disabilities. She teaches the teachers how to adjust their instruction for children with disabilities. She also accompanies children to their classes and provides assistance in the learning process. Finally, she works with parents to learn more about needs and possible supports to develop. Thank you, Michele, for your work supporting those in our Parish with special needs.

A friend of mine, when describing the busyness and unpredictability of her family uses the phrase "Life is just messy". I'd like to extend that even further and state "The world is messy". Everywhere we look, it seems society is spiraling out of control. However we know who is in control, and God allows evil and wickedness to happen to achieve a greater good.
Through history we can see where evil was confronted by ordinary men and the world was changed. Two thousand years ago 12 men responded to the call, and turned the world upside down. And now it is our turn. We, as knights are called to do our part in changing the world. How do we do this? By living virtuous lives. Being men of courage and honor. Loving our wives and children to show them their lives matter, that their decisions and actions matter. Reaching out to those around us with love; the downtrodden, our relatives, our friends, and even our enemies. They all were created by God and we need to bring his love to them.
We need to look at service as a good thing. Especially if it is the mundane thing like setting up tables and chairs for the church, cleaning up the scattered paper left in the pews after Mass, or allowing the car next to you to pull in front as you leave the parking lot. This is humbling work, but that is what makes it great. To be humble doesn't mean to be weak. It means to truly know your self as a child of Christ - there is nothing greater than that.
I have been able to make almost all the council meetings since becoming the District Deputy and can honestly say that I am changed after each meeting. I see good men striving to do the right thing. Taking time out of their day to sit down with other men of faith and share their lives. God is at work in all of us!
Together we can change the world. We need to give each man in our parishes, young and old, the opportunity to be a Knight of Columbus. Keep up the great work, and let's pray for each other.
