Jackson District #513 Blue Mass

By: Gary Merritt - Mon, Sep 12, 2022 10:37 AM

Jackson District #513 Blue Mass for First Responders September 11, 2022

Jackson area Knights of Columbus Michigan District #513, under the direction of District Deputy Ben Dandrow, organized a Blue Mass on Sunday September 11, 2022. The District is comprised of five councils representing the following churches: Queen of the Miraculous Medal #609, St John the Evangelist #8392, St. Stanislaus Kostka Chapel #8858, St Joseph Oratory #9131, and St Mary Star of the Sea #9301.  The concelebrated Mass was held at St Mary Star of the Sea Church located in Jackson, MI at 10:00 am.

A Blue Mass is to honor, thank, and pray for the safety of all First Responders, Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Responders, the men and women who lay their lives on the line daily to protect the Jackson community. It was appropriate we did this on the 21st Anniversary of the 9/11 attack on this country when 412 emergency workers lost their lives that day. 2000 more have died from injury or illness contracted during the recovery efforts.  All Jackson area Public Safety departments were invited and more than 50 responders and their families attended the Mass, many who were not Catholic.  At the Mass, Fr Tim Nelson, Pastor of St Mary’s, read the names of those who fell in the line of duty serving the community. Many who attended were on duty as witnessed by the three fire trucks and police and sheriff vehicles parked outside the church.

The Jackson area Knights of Columbus, who continue to pray for the safety of our first responders, would like to thank Fr Tim Nelson Pastor and Fr Tyler Arens Parochial Vicar for hosting and concelebrating the Mass at St Mary Star of the Sea and St Mary’s Council #9301 for their support and help in making the Blue Mass a success.

RFFA Amendment will be on the Ballot

Yesterday evening, the Michigan Supreme Court voted 5-2 to overturn the Board of Canvassers vote. This means that the anything-goes RFFA abortion amendment will be on the November ballot.

By overturning the Board of Canvasser's 2-2 deadlock vote to not put the amendment on the ballot, the MI Supreme Court is ordering the board to approve it, despite any reservations.

The Citizens to Support MI Women and Children coalition fought for the unborn and the women of Michigan at the Board of Canvassers meeting last Wednesday, in hopes that the Board would see that our constitution should not have 60 errors engraved in it. While the prolife coalition has been fighting against the amendment since the moment it was announced, this particular fight at the Board of Canvassers meeting came about when the coalition's legal team discovered that the petition that was circulated and signed had not been the one conditionally approved in March and it contained 60 spacing errors.

These errors made the amendment language hard to read due to gibberish paragraphs with words that were over 100 characters long. Because of the no spaces, the content of the amendment language, also known as the form, was inherently different from the original language that was presented to the board in March.

Despite the obvious, which is that our state constitution doesn't currently have any errors so why should we add 60, the amendment will be on the November ballot. Prolife Michigan will be hanging in the balance as Michiganders will decide if our state should allow partial-birth abortions, taxpayer-funded abortions, abortions for children without parental consent or knowledge, and fetal viability only including healthy infants who don't need to go to the NICU. Not to mention that age of consent, statutory rape, and abortion facility regulations are also on the line when voting on this amendment.

Please learn about this amendment and pass your knowledge on to your neighbors, friends, family, and community. This amendment has no business being enshrined in our state constitution, making Michigan the most radical state in the U.S., ahead of New York and California.

Canvassers Did The Right Thing

By: Ed Strach - Thu, Sep 1, 2022 8:10 AM

CANVASSERS DID THE RIGHT THING

NOW UP TO THE SUPREME COURT TO REJECT

MISTAKE-RIDDLED CONSTITUTIONAL VANDALISM

The Board of State Canvassers today refused to certify the mistake riddled Anything goes Abortion Amendment proposed for Michigan’s constitution, rejecting the 60 typos that would be inserted into the constitution permanently.

Christen Pollo of Citizens to Support Michigan Women and Children released the following statement: “The Board of State Canvassers today did the right thing by refusing to insert into our constitution the gibberish proposed by advocates for this extreme amendment. The Michigan Supreme Court should support this move to protect our constitution from their vandalism as well. We will also bring voters into this discussion with our first television ad of the campaign, with voters sharing their outrage over the idea that anyone would propose injecting 60 mistakes into our constitution forever.”

St Joseph Icon – First Six Months Update

By: Greg Brunson - Fri, Aug 26, 2022 1:57 PM

Since beginning the St. Joseph Pilgrim Icon Program in February 2022, the Michigan Jurisdiction has seen wonderful participation. The program has been very well received, especially from our Clergy.

The stated goal is for ALL Parishes in Michigan to be given the opportunity to host the Icon for a week. For the first six months we are well on our way to making that a reality. Our District Deputies have been asked to request the Icon for their district, for as many weeks as they need it – based on the number of ‘Parishes’ in their district, not necessarily the number of Councils.   A District in Kalamazoo for example had it for 9 weeks – there are nine Parishes in the district.

We are at the halfway point for the year. Let all the Districts who have not hosted an Icon or are not yet scheduled, fill out a request form and get on the schedule ASAP.

Go to https://mikofc.org/resources/Faith-in-action and you see a current copy of the schedule and for our District Deputies, the Pilgrim Icon Request Form  Fill it out and sent to g.brunson@mikofc.org and I will get you on the schedule.

The chart below shows where we are to-date as a State.

In the weeks ahead I will be reaching out to the districts who have not yet been scheduled assisting them in getting the Icon. Remember that this program is not for the Knights of Columbus rather for our Parishes.

Remember also for hosting councils to complete a form 10784, choose ‘Pilgrim Icon Program’ and the Icon # which is on the asset tag behind the Icon.
