On Sunday, May 26, 2024 the Silver Rose made a visit to Holy Redeemer Parish in Jenison, MI. Bishop Fulton Sheen Council #7487 brought Silver Rose to Holy Redeemer Parish from the Knights of Columbus State Convention on Mackinac Island. The beautiful service was well attended and the Honor Guard was present.

The tradition of the Silver Rose originated in Monterrey, Mexico in 1960, when Brother Knights there came up with the idea to run a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses. Over time, this tradition evolved into the Silver Rose, with eight roses now traveling different North American routes that include Canada, every U.S. state, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and Mexico.

This tradition not only honors Our Lady of Guadalupe but also symbolizes the Unity of the Knights of Columbus and reaffirms our dedication to the sanctity of human life.

Congratulations to Matthew Koles and Eryka Newcomb for being selected to receive the Justin Mello Memorial Award during the I.C. School sports banquet on May 20. The award is presented each year to an 8th grade boy and girl for their achievements in sports, academics and citizenship.

Justin Mello was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School who tragically lost his life in October, 2000 at the age of 16. Every year Au Lac Council 10724 presents the award in his memory. We hope that by honoring his memory it will also serve as a reminder to all parents of the preciousness of every child.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Matthew and Eryka for their outstanding achievements. Their dedication and hard work have truly set them apart.
