On September 5th, State Deputy Regional Representative Paul Thorn presented Grand Knight Michael Page of Our Lady on the River Council 856 with the Detroit East July Council of the Month Award.  The award was presented during their meeting at St. Catherine Church in Algonac.

The Council earned Star Council status for the first time in many years for the 2022 - 2023 Fraternal Year.  During the last Fraternal Year, GK Page promised to shave his beard if and when a Supreme Star Council Plaque was presented to him.  Rumor has it that his wife Christine is thrilled about the award but not too happy about him losing his beard.  Stay tuned for the upcoming Star Council Award Presentation.

The afternoon of Tuesday, August 29th, was a productive recruiting event at Western Michigan University's Bronco Bash 2023! The St. Thomas More Catholic Student Parish sponsored a booth that was staffed with members of the parish and the Knights of Columbus Council members from St. Mary Council #9962 in Kalamazoo. Many students stopped by the booth to learn more about the student parish and the Knights of Columbus, with several Catholic gentlemen deciding to join the Knights right then and there!

Bronco Bash was well attended by the student body, and the participants from St. Thomas More and Council 9962 enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of fellowship and friendship.

Howard Lehti, a beloved member of Council 14586, was passionate about serving the Allendale and Grand Valley State community through various charitable efforts.  In honor of his memory, the proceeds from the golf outing will be used to fund multiple student scholarships. These scholarships will be awarded to students who have shown outstanding academic achievement and have demonstrated service and leadership in their community and Catholic faith.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must either be parishioners of 2St. Luke University Parish or Catholic students attending Grand Valley State University. We believe in supporting our local community and helping students achieve their educational goals.

The golf outing will take place on Saturday, September 23rd, with a shotgun start at 9 AM EST at the beautiful Gracewil Country Club in Grand Rapids, MI. The outing will consist of an exciting 18-hole 4-person scramble golf tournament. The cost to participate is $80 per golfer, with a special student discount of $40. This fee includes the 18-hole scramble golf, a golf cart, and a delicious lunch. Open to friends and families!

If you are interested in participating in the golf outing or sponsoring a hole, please register using the link provided. The sign-up deadline is September 12th, so make sure to secure your spot soon. Hope to see you there!
