Fellow Parishioners of Holy Spirit Parish in Highland, Tom and Laura Abraham needed some home repairs. They allowed several of our Knights to come over and help out. The Holy Spirit truly showed up and many important tasks were taken care of by a very energetic crew.

I would like to thank Knights of Columbus Father John Howard Council #8500 members, Dave Sisson, Ken Glover, Christopher Porter, Tom Abraham, Maxwell Cornellier and a solid, thank you to Payment Pounders LLC, owner, Ryan Kresge, and his nine-year-old son Bryce, who donated all the materials and labor to safely correct the front porch situation. I certainly know Bryce out-worked me but more importantly his energetic, smiling face was welcomed by Tom and Laura. Last, but not least Laura Abraham, who was the supervisor and Denise Godin, who kept everybody in line. It was like Christmas in April!

If I have forgotten anyone. I’m getting a little old and I apologize.

Bishop Fulton J. Sheen Council #7487 held their council’s annual Wild Game Dinner fund raising event on Saturday evening February 4, 2023. The donation to the Hunt Club, as well as other charities, is made possible with the proceeds from the event.

The donation was for over $7,400.00 and will provide funding for Veterans using the facility.

The Hunt Club sponsors safe and escorted hunting experiences for Disabled Veterans. Trap and Skeet shooting is also available to the Vets.

The Au Lac Council #10724 conducted their annual Spring Highway Cleanup on Saturday, April 29. Sixteen Knights collected a total of 30 trash bags of trash along Highway M-29 in Ira Township. The Council will also have summer and fall cleanup days later this year. A special thank you to PGK Jim Zeck who has chaired this event for the past 15 years.

The date of the donation was Monday April 10th. The check was over $7,400.00 which were funds of the proceeds from our council’s Wild Game Dinner held on Friday February 3rd. 

Harmony homes is an organization that provides quality, Christian housing and assistance to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. This particular home is in a residential area in Georgetown township.

The Au Lac Council #10724 in Ira Township hosted a birthday celebration for their Pastor, Fr. Joseph Esper, on Thursday April 27.

The Knights provided and served cake and ice cream for everyone in attendance, which included all of the students at Immaculate Conception School. We are very thankful for Fr. Joe and his dedication to the people of our parish.

Au Lac Council #10724 in Ira Twps. hosted a Fraternal Benefits event on Wed. April 25 at Immaculate Conception Parish. It drew a total of 19 Brother Knights and 8 others.

Brother Don M. Wesley, K of C Field Agent, and Charles R. Shaw, Attorney at Law, presented valuable information about how to protect members and their loved ones at all stages of life.

On Monday, April 24th, Swartz Creek Council #6694 presented checks to both The Luke Project 52 Clinic of Flint and the Pregnancy Help Clinic. 

Throughout the month of February, the council held a "Baby Bottle Drive" (an ASAP initiative) which was well received and generously supported by the parish family of St. Mary Queen of Angels, Swartz Creek. The council and parish believe in the wonderful work these organizations provide for mothers and babies who are in need and, as such, they were able to raise over $3486 in a single month! The council was pleased, therefore, to contribute $1743 to each of these most worthy of organizations.

An Invitation Priests, Deacons, and Religious

Appreciation Dinner

Dear Worthy District Deputies, Councils, and Assemblies,

We are pleased to invite you to support and participate in the annual Knights of Columbus Grand Rapids Diocese Clergy and Religious Appreciation Dinner on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.  This event is being hosted by Bishop Kevin Britt Council #8117 at St. Robert of Newminster Parish 6477 Ada Dr. Ada, MI 49301.

This event is a small token of our appreciation for their exemplary service and leadership to the Catholic faithful of the Diocese of Grand Rapids.  Your meals will be $45.00 per person, payable to ‘KofC #8117’. Tables of 7 may be reserved for $300.00.  In addition, councils are encouraged to make a $100.00 donation to the event.

Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak, J.C.D., will be attending.

Doors will open at 5:30 PM for social hour.  A delicious dinner will be served at 7:00 PM.  The event should conclude at approximately 8:30 PM.

The deadline for registration is June 13, 2023.

Register by email to: clergyappreciationdinner2023@gmail.com.  Please include your total number of Knights attending from your Council / Assembly.  An acknowledgment will be sent once the reservation is received. Payment due upon acknowledgment of reservation.  Due to space constraints, reservations will be limited to the first 160 requests.  The remaining spaces are being held until all RSVP’s are received from priests and religious members.  If necessary, a waitlist will be created and those on the waitlist will be notified if space becomes available.

Congratulations to Cara Ritchey for being selected as our Youth of the Month for April! Cara is the daughter of Steven and Christine Ritchey and an 8th grade student at Immaculate Conception School. She is an altar server, an active member of the Shine youth group. and helped each week at our parish fish fries. She has received the Sacrament of Confirmation and is already demonstrating her love and commitment to Christ and His Church. The Knights say "Thank you!" to Cara for her service to our parish.
