On Saturday, July 15, 2023, Pope St. John XXIII Council #5436 (Waterford, MI) conducted another one of its many "Helping Hands" projects.  Ten Brother Knights and two ladies arrived at a centennial house located in the Clarkston/Independence Township area to clear overgrown brush, shrubs, grass and weeds.  Led by GK Michael Mandziuk, this group trimmed 26 shrubberies and attacked two acres with some serious weed-wacking.  It took four hours to finish the job.

The home belongs to an elderly and long-time volunteer at the local Clarkston Lighthouse Food Bank who is unable to take care of these chores by herself.  Council #5436 also collects canned goods and helps out at this food bank on a regular basis.

Holy Family Parish in Caledonia offered their parking lot to be used as a viewing area for the community fireworks during the Independence Day Celebration on Saturday July 1st.

The Knights of the parish, Bishop Allen J. Babcock Council #7341, manned the parking lot and used this opportunity to help both the church Youth Programs and the food pantry.

The Knights asked for a donation of any non-perishable food item as admission to the parking lot.

A thousand pounds of food were collected as well as $349.00 in cash donations.

In addition, the Brother Knights offered grilled hot dogs and hamburgers for sale. This resulted in $594.83 of which the proceeds will be donated to the Church’s youth ministry programs.
