Council 8117 Helping Hands

We all need a little help at times, and we are so grateful for the helping hands of our Knights of Columbus!

Several weeks ago, I saw an article from Knights in the bulletin letting the community know that they were available to help with odd jobs. I have an elderly mom, and we are blessed that she is still able to live in her home! With us working full time, taking care of our home, mom, and her home…sometimes we get a little overwhelmed.  So, I reached out and asked for some fall cleanup help at mom’s house.

And wow!! The Knights came through!  At 8am on a rainy Saturday morning in November, nine men arrived in the driveway to work!  Honestly, we felt so blessed, so taken care of in that moment. We worked hard, shared stories, coffee, and bagels – and yes, we did get a little wet.  I am happy to say the rain stopped after a bit.  The Knights worked from 8am until noon, and they got a lot of work done. Repairing a tie wall, cleaning up leaves, cleaning gutters, removing dead bushes, we had quite a list and they completed everything!

When we were almost done, I brought mom out to meet our Saturday crew…she was amazed! She thought that maybe 2 or 3 people would show up.  Seeing those nine men, helping her, helping us, taking care of her home was such a gift!  We are so very grateful.

Sometimes asking for help is difficult, but that is what community is all about. We are blessed here at St. Robert’s to have a caring community with many willing to help those in need.

Thank you Knights!
