Founders Award changes for this Fraternal Year

Founders Award - NEW qualifications and form submission process for this year!

The Founders Award recognizes excellence in the promotion of our insurance and fraternal benefits. For a Council to achieve this award (and ultimately earn Star Council), the Council must promote and conduct TWO Fraternal Benefit events (virtual or in-person) during the Fraternal Year.

NEW as of July 1st, 2023, the required sum total attendance for both events must equal or exceed:

10 unique members or member-eligible attendees for councils with 99 or fewer members. 14 unique members or member-elibible attendees for councils with 100 or more members.

Each member (or member-eligible) attendee can only be counted as attending in one event. A member-eligible attendee is defined as a Catholic man, 18 years of age or older who is not currently a member of the Knights of Columbus. While ladies are always welcome to attend these events, they are not eligible to be counted as an attendee.

The council must submit the names, addresses, and phone numbers of each member or member-eligible attendee in order to qualify. After completion of the Seminar, the Grand Knight must submit the information directly to Supreme.

General agents will no longer be submitting Fraternal Benefit Events for Councils.  This responsibility will now reside with the Grand Knight.  Please do not submit the Form 11077 to your agents.

Coats for Kids 2

Coats for Kids

Join the many councils throughout the State of Michigan in our mission to provide warmth for deserving children during the cold Michigan winter months. Every council in the state is invited to participate in any way that they can in the Coats for Kids program. There are many ways your council can participate:

  • The council may make a direct donation to the State Council to assist with purchasing coats for one of the State distribution centers. Information on how to do this is below.

  •
  • A council may hold their own coat drive, collecting new coats from local businesses and distributing them in your local area.

  •
  • A council may participate in the Supreme program by purchasing coats through the Supreme supplier and distributing them locally.

  •
  • Finally, the Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) option from Supreme is once again available from Supreme to the State Council.

To purchase coats directly through Supreme, please visit KnightsGear. Be aware that this method does not qualify for the BOGO option.

Here are some guidelines to take advantage of the BOGO option from Supreme:

  • The BOGO order must be submitted by the State Council.

  •
  • As a Council (or District) determine where you want to distribute the coats in your area. As always, work with the pastor of any parish in the distribution of the coats.

  •
  • After your fundraising efforts are complete, determine the number of cases of coats by type (see www.knightsgear.com) that you wish to order.

  •
  • There is an order form posted on the State website that must be completed and sent in.

  •
  • It is critical to have contact information provided on the order form. Additionally, the full name and address of the shipping information must be supplied on the form.

  •
  • Follow the directions on the form when submitting your funds. Checks must be made payable to ‘Michigan State Council’ and put ‘Coats for Kids’ on the memo line.

  •
  • Checks are to be sent to either your SDRR for tracking locally (please verify this with your SDRR) or myself. My address is on the form.

  •
  • Once the form and payment are received, you will receive acknowledgement back from me. Any shipping information will be communicated at that time.

  •
  • If your order is for 10 cases, it will be filled with 20 cases. So please plan accordingly.

Our goal is to have all of the orders placed before September 1, 2023. This means that I must receive your order information and funds no later than August 26, 2023. Orders received before then will be processed as quickly as possible. This deadline will help get the coats to the distribution sites around September 16, 2023. This should allow for planning an October 1, 2023, distribution timeframe. Any questions, please contact me.

The Knights of Columbus is once again sponsoring a Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest to encourage today’s youth to be more connected to their community and faith.

The topic for this year fits right into our COR program: "How can the Church evangelize in the digital age?"
