Adopt A Highway 2025 Summer Cleanup - Au Lac Council 10724
Au Lac Council 10724 in Ira Township conducted their Adopt A Highway summer cleanup on July 12. Fifteen brother Knights collected 15 bags of trash along the two mile stretch of Highway M29 (Dixie Highway) near their church. Their fall cleanup is scheduled for September 27.
The Adopt A Highway program has been conducted in the State of Michigan since 1990. The Au Lac Council has been active in the program since 1995. They conduct three cleanups each year - spring, summer and fall with a report submitted to the Michigan DOT after each one. Past Grand Knight Jim Zeck has chaired the program since 2009 and has compiled the following statistics:
- 571 participants
- 1084 bags collected
- 789 hours worked
Thank you to the brother Knights for service to your community!

In today’s second reading, Paul says that he is “filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ.” Is he saying that Christ’s atoning sacrifice was somehow incomplete? Absolutely not! Learn what Paul was saying, as well as the difference between Abraham and Martha's hospitality, in today’s Dad Talk:

Lost and Found: Knights of Columbus State Officers Go the Extra Mile

On Wednesday, the Grand Rapids Diocesan meeting saw an excellent turnout of Knights of Columbus members. After the meeting concluded, a cellphone belonging to a District Deputy was found during cleanup. State Warden Joel and State Treasurer Vern, the only state officers remaining, took responsibility for the phone.
Determined to reunite the phone with its owner, Joel and Vern attempted to locate the District Deputy’s contact information through social media that evening but found no recent activity. The next morning, after receiving a voicemail from Joel, a fellow Knight provided the District Deputy’s home phone number and workplace details. Joel was informed that if he couldn’t reach the District Deputy, another Knight could retrieve the phone and return it. However, Joel and Vern, with time before their next meeting in Kalamazoo, took action.
They called the District Deputy’s home phone but received no answer. Undeterred, they visited his workplace, only to learn it was his day off. The pair then drove to his home but found no one there. After enjoying a bowl of soup at a local diner while waiting for a possible call, they returned to the District Deputy’s home. Still unable to find him, they left the phone securely in his mailbox.
Joel informed a fellow Knight of their efforts, and an email was sent urging the District Deputy to call as soon as possible.
Within two hours, the grateful District Deputy confirmed he had retrieved his phone. This is just one example of how Michigan Knights of Columbus State Officers go above and beyond to support their brother Knights.
