Radiating Joy - The Michelle Duppong Story

"Radiating Joy: The Michelle Duppong Story" is a compelling documentary that chronicles the life of Servant of God Michelle Duppong, a former FOCUS missionary who tragically passed away from cancer in 2015 at the young age of 31.

Bishop Kagan of Bismarck initiated her Cause for Canonization in 2022. Michelle's story serves as a powerful testament to unwavering faith in God amidst adversity, illustrating that even the most ordinary individuals are called to strive for sainthood.

On November 12th, "Radiating Joy" will be shown in over 700 theaters nationwide for a special one-night screening. This event promises to be a moving and inspirational experience for all audiences.

Ken Duppong, Michelle's father, is a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, and he attributes the spiritual growth of his family to the Knights' influence. In recognition of their impact, the Knights have produced a video highlighting the Duppong family's journey.

Jesus, how easily I forget that you don't want fancy attire, lofty honors or prominence in society from me. Instead, your desire is that I give you my entire livelihood. Lord, help me to be like the widow who, in her great humility, gave God everything she had. Amen

"For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood." Gospel for November 10, MK12:44)

The lowly widow has received praise from Jesus because her gift came from her substance and not her abundance. There is much to be said for the "give until it hurts" approach to charity. We ought to give sacrificially, and it is not much of a sacrifice to give away things we don't use or money we won't miss. Remembering what Jesus gave us should challenge us to greater sacrifice for others.

Councils, please submit the Council EFF Director Form

i. Per the data from the District Deputy Annual 944 form, over 5500 councils plan on holding Cor this year, which is amazing. The data also said that over 3200 councils held Cor last year, also amazing. We only have 1200 individual EFF Directors submitted, 750 from US and Canada and 450(38%) being from the Philippines (well done Philippines!). This means we have a number of holes in the data and we want to share as accurate of narrative as possible on the great work happening in parishes across the Order.

ii. To be clear, these numbers are not a vanity metric but are being shared with KofC Supreme Officers and with Bishops around the world. They are all very interested in understanding the impact of Cor in their diocese. To give this accurate count, we need accurate data. Please help by advocating via your DDs and GKs that these forms and surveys are submitted.

i. The first quarterly survey received 75 submissions. We are hoping more fill it out retroactively and that even more fill out the survey next month at the close of the 2nd quarter of the fraternal year.

St Louis Center 37th Annual Fall Dinner Auction

On Saturday, November 9th, St. Louis Center hosted its 37th Annual Fall Dinner Auction. It was a wonderful evening filled with excitement and generosity.

We are pleased to congratulate Past State Deputy Kenneth Unterbrink and his wife, Ellie, for being honored with the St. Louis Center's Founders Award. Their years of dedication, commitment, and continued support has helped make a positive impact on the lives of those served by the center.

Additionally, the Michigan Knights of Columbus proudly presented a check for a $21,000 donation to the center.

Holy Cross Services Sweatshirt Drive

It is that time of year again! Michigan Knights of Columbus councils statewide will soon be participating in the Holy Cross Services Sweatshirt Program. This program has been a great success for many years, and with your support, we hope to continue this tradition and make it even better. Like last year, we are not going to be collecting items at the Winter Leadership Meeting for HCS, but still encouraging councils to donate items for this drive. District Deputies will need to collect items for their councils, or provide the councils with the date and locations to drop off items.

Residents at Holy Cross Services truly appreciate receiving high-quality sweatshirts or hoodies with pro sports team or college logos (please, no plain sweatshirts).

When purchasing new sweatshirts, please consider youth sizes XS, S, M, L and adult sizes S, M, L. Quality is more important than quantity, as your gift may be the only one they receive this Christmas.

To make your donation extra special, place the sweatshirts in a decorated gift box and clearly mark the size on the outside. If the sweatshirt is gender-specific, please indicate this in large, easy-to-read lettering.

2024 DAVL Memorial Mass on November 3rd

The Detroit Archdiocesan Vocations League Memorial Mass was held on Sunday, November 3rd at Sacred Heart Major Seminary.

This annual event is a poignant and meaningful occasion to honor the memory of our Brother Knights who have passed away, as well as to connect with the future Priests of our community.

It was a moving experience to come together in remembrance and fellowship, reflecting on the legacy of those who have paved the way for generations to follow.

Forty Days for Life

It was a beautiful sunshiny fall day on Sunday, October 20th as sixty-five enthusiastic prayer warriors gathered outside the Planned Parenthood on Professional Dr in Ann Arbor to Pray for an End to Abortion.

Before departing on the 5th lap of our Seven Sundays Interfaith Jericho March, US Congressman Tim Walberg representing the 5th District of Michigan ministered to those present as a Baptist Pastor and not as Politician, with warmth and humility. He recognized that our local community was the “Belly of the Beast” and urged us to continue to “work to change hearts and minds” no matter what the laws are currently.

Ed Strach, the Michigan Knights of Columbus Life Director, gave a very informative presentation highlighting the tremendous work that the Knights of Columbus are doing in our local communities and across Michigan. This event hosted by Ann Arbor 40 Days for Life was part of their fall campaign which ends on Sunday, November 3rd.

SOMI 2024 Ties and Tennies Event

The Michigan Special Olympics Ties and Tennies event took place on November 1st, 2024 at Ford Field. Attendees were elegantly dressed in black tie (optional) attire, and wearing tennis shoes as a show of support for the Special Olympics Athletes. The Ties and Tennies Gala is the flagship event for Michigan Special Olympics, with southeast Michigan boasting the largest athlete population in the state.

This annual event aims to raise funds for more than 22,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities in Michigan. These funds support year-round sports and training, health and wellness programs, and anti-bullying education initiatives.

The Special Olympics Movement has the power to inspire communities worldwide to embrace and include individuals with intellectual disabilities, fostering a culture of acceptance and celebration of diversity.

Coats for Kids Detroit Distribution

As the weather begins to get colder, the Knights of Columbus Councils throughout Michigan heat up their commitment to the community with free winter coat distributions for deserving children!

Today, eighteen percent of American children and fourteen percent of Canadian children live in poverty. As a result, many families cannot afford to provide even the basic necessity of a warm winter coat.

Putting their faith into action, Knights of Columbus councils throughout the United States and Canada have handed out more than one million coats to children through the Coats for Kids program.

The Michigan Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids distribution will be held at St. Anne’s Basilica in Detroit, Michigan from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on November 16, 2024. Coats are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis and range in size from boys (12M) and girls (12M) all the way up to boys XXL and girls XXL.
