 Holy Cross Hero!

This week we have three HEROES Linda Mayhew, Emily Veele and Eren Phelps! We want to thank them for all their hard work and help with Operation Good Cheer for our Muskegon foster care program last month!  December 2019 marked the 49th year of making Christmas wishes come true for foster care children in Michigan.  Thousands of generous volunteers gather annually to participate in Operation Good Cheer collecting donated gifts and delivering them to the children and youth in foster care across Michigan. Thank you; Linda, Emily and Eren for your part in that great project!

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

“Holy Cross knows how to treat us. People tend to think that kids in foster care are needy and don’t have normal lives like everyone else. They (Holy Cross staff) don’t think of us like that. They treat us like who we are – normal kids who are just having a hard time in life. That’s what else is great about the staff here. They don’t pretend like everything is okay when we first arrive. They understand that this is a very hard process. They sit us down and ask, ‘Are you okay?’ The staff actually care about us, and understand that it isn’t easy to adapt right away.”

9 Days for Life

Knights: Pray to Protect Human Life! January 21-29

As Catholics, we know prayer is what strengthens and sustains our efforts to defend the sanctity of life. That’s why this year, councils are encouraged to spiritually support national, state and local Marches for Life across the globe, as well as our Order’s efforts to build a Culture of Life, by participating in 9 Days for Life.

9 Days for Life is a multi-faceted novena offered each year by the bishops of the United States for the respect and protection of every human life. Each day, a different intention is accompanied by a short reflection, suggested actions, and related information.

A special web-page has been created for Knights to participate in this year’s Novena found at kofc.9daysforlife.com. I encourage you to share the page, sign-up for the daily emails, and participate in the novena between Tuesday, January 21 –and Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Councils may fulfill the requirements of the Novena for Life, a required Faith in Action program by participating in 9 Days for Life. To make participation even easier, the USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities offers leaders’ tools like printable handouts of the novena, promotional and prayer graphics, sample announcements and more.

Councils may also keep the following recommendations in mind when planning for their involvement:

  • Ask your pastor if you can anchor the beginning and end of the nine days with Mass or the rosary. Another option is to come together to pray on January 22nd, the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.

  • Consider organizing a social activity during the novena for the parish to come together and celebrate the sanctity of life.

  • Involve members of many parish organizations, especially the parish school and religious education leaders, as well as members of local culture of life groups in promoting and participating in the novena and related services.

9 Days for Life is just one of the many ways you can carry out the Novena for Life Program. Visit KofC.org to learn more.

We will be praying along with you here at Supreme. May God bless you for your efforts to defend life.

NOVENA FOR LIFE

The protection of life is a sustained prayer intention of the Church, and in particular of the Knights of Columbus. Knights remain firmly committed to defending the right to life of every human being – from the moment of conception to natural death. To commemorate and bolster this important cause, councils will promote a novena, nine days of sustained prayer, to build up a culture of life in our parishes, homes and wider community.
