On Sunday August 3rd, St Alphonsus Council 15495 of Grand Rapids welcomed three new Knights: Rik Minnema, Nicholas Ryan, and Mike Beekman.

Brother Knights from Au Lac Council 10724 in Ira Township conducted their summer highway cleanup along Dixie (M29) Highway. A total of 9 bags of trash were collected. The council conducts three cleanups each year in the spring, summer and fall.

 

The Adopt-A-Highway program has been conducted in the state of Michigan since 1990. The Au Lac Council has been active in the program since 1995. This year (2024) is their 30th year of participation. PGK Jim Zeck has been the chairman since 2009 and has compiled the following statistics:

The Knights of Columbus councils in the Grand Rapids Diocese host an annual appreciation dinner for all the Priests, Deacons, and Religious within the diocese to express gratitude for their dedicated service.

Each year, a different council has the honor of hosting the dinner. This year, Bishop Allen J. Babcock Council #7341 in Caledonia, led by Grand Knight Roger Campbell, had the privilege of hosting the event on Wednesday, June 26.

The Fourth Degree Honor Guard from various Assemblies across the Diocese warmly welcomed attendees and escorted the dignitaries to the head table. They presented and posted the colors and led everyone in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

The evening commenced with a prayer and grace, delivered by Fr. Mike Cilibraise, the pastor of Holy Family Parish and Chaplain for Council 7341.

Bishop Walkowiak addressed the importance of vocations and expressed gratitude to the Knights for their support of seminarians through the RSVP program. He also highlighted the positive impact of parish-wide prayers for vocations, noting an increase in the number of seminarians.

With 27 priests, several deacons, numerous religious individuals, and guests totaling around 240 in attendance, a heartfelt thank you is extended to the 30+ volunteers who flawlessly managed the evening.

Anchor Bay Council 5981 and St. Mary on the Lake Assembly 2804 were honored to help escort a statue of Our Lady of Fatima throughout the Bay-Rama Parade route.

 

The hymns "Ave Maria" and "Salve Regina" played the parade progressed through downtown New Baltimore with our Lady. Many people were moved: some clapped, some genuflected, and one gentleman stood up and saluted Our Lady as she processed.

 

Brother Knights carried the Crucifix of Our Lord, displayed flags with the image of the Blessed Mother, and passed out rosaries and prayer cards along the parade route. Tootsie Rolls were handed out to children by Brothers and Ladies in yellow vests and t-shirts stating "Catholic & Proud".

Thank you to all who helped honor our Lord and Lady and make the parade special!

On June 22nd and 23rd, ten councils united to provide support for a fellow council at the Holy Name of Jesus Parish Festival in Wyoming, MI. The highlight of the event was witnessing the joy on the faces of Father Edwin Carreño and Father Charlie Brown.

On June 17th, Msgr Michael G. Abdoo Counci #8231 in Clinton Twp was honored with the April 2024 Council of the Month Award for the Detroit Archdiocese/East Region.

 

The council members were delighted to pose for a photo in front of their newly acquired council banner, which was bestowed upon them by the Supreme Council in recognition of their outstanding growth efforts from January to March.

 

Congratulations to all the Brothers on these well-deserved accolades!

The Homework House, located in the heart of Avalon Village, serves as a safe haven for children in the community. After six years of hard work and dedication, this project has finally come to fruition. The Homework House provides a welcoming environment where children can gather after school to enjoy a warm meal, receive assistance with their homework, acquire valuable life skills, and much more.

Thanks to the generosity of the "Knights Bikes" program at Fr. John Howard Council #8500, the Homework House now boasts a brand new bicycle rack. This addition not only enhances the facilities of the Homework House but also promotes a healthy and active lifestyle for the children in the community.

Under the leadership of Mama Shu, the Homework House in Highland Park stands as a beacon of hope for the neighborhood's children. It serves as an oasis where they can thrive and grow, while also acting as a cornerstone for the entire community.

Fr. Thomas R. Carey Council #4764, Lake Orion, Michigan, received the AOD East "Council of the Month" for June 2024.

 

Council #4764 achieved "Star Council eligibility" for the 4th year-in-a-row, AND received the State Program LIFE Award at our 2024 State Convention on Mackinac Island! The LIFE Award was in recognition for the council's annual "Dad's for Life" program at St. Joseph Catholic Church located in Lake Orion, MI.

Bishop Fulton Sheen Council #7487 (Jenison) of Holy Redeemer Parish granted two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors as part of their annual scholarship program. The participants were required to compose an essay between 500 to 750 words on "how the Church can evangelize in the digital age." The Council reviewed numerous submissions and chose Abigail and Dominik's essays as the winning entries.

On June 2nd, members of Fr Thomas R. Carey Council #4764/Orion Township took part in the Corpus Christi procession at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Orion, Michigan. The Knights provided canopy support for the monstrance and served as the color guard for the procession, which was presided over by Rev. Jim Keen.
