The intermittent rain made all the bikes shine even more and the smiles brighter; we all can agree that it is difficult to frown while riding a bicycle!

Since 2014, this program has gifted over 1,268 bikes to many organizations, churches, non-profits, individuals, and folks just like you…and the bikes are always free.

Joe Hickerson, the Grand Knight of Gaylord Council 2781, performed on keyboards alongside his friends in a benefit concert for the Mt Carmel Center Restoration Society.

This society is on a mission to restore the original St. Mary's church, which was built in 1901 in the city of Gaylord.Fun fact: back then, this church served as the Cathedral after the Gaylord Diocese was established, making it the smallest Cathedral in America!

Headlining this group was none other than Helen Debaker Vorce, a legendary member of the Michigan Music Hall of Fame. This group is now headed to Escanaba for the Upper Peninsula State Fair.

Grand Knight Joe had his first gig at the church as the organist, and for the next 30 years, he has played with various musicians across northern Michigan. He still shares his incredible talents with the parish every Sunday at the Cathedral, or St. Thomas in Elmira or Holy Redeemer in Vanderbilt.

CathedralThe benefit concert was a success, with a fantastic turnout and everyone having a great time. It's safe to say that the event was a hit, and it's all thanks to Joe and his crew!

Brother Knights of District 517 present donations for ultrasound machine at a new Pregnancy Support center

The Brother Knights of District 517 recently gathered at the Cristo Rey Community Center to present a check for $28,270 to CEO Joe Garcia. This generous donation is specifically intended for the purchase of an ultrasound machine, which will be a valuable addition to the new pregnancy support center.

The funds were raised with the Lansing Bro Knights ultrasound checkincredible support of parishioners from East Lansing Catholics, St. Martha Catholic Church in Okemos, and St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamston. Their overwhelming generosity truly touched hearts.

In addition to this remarkable contribution, a check for $19,730 was received from the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus. With this additional support, the total amount raised for the ultrasound machine has reached an impressive $48,000 so far.

It comes as no surprise that the Michigan Knights of Columbus are leading the Order in the Life category. We are proud to work together in our mission to improve the lives of pregnant mothers and their precious unborn babies.

Irish Hills Council 6223 achieves a milestone with Ramp number 400!

It has been 40 years since the beginning of Project Ramp for the Irish Hills Knights of Columbus Council 6223.

The Holy Cross Brothers who sponsored Holy Cross Childrens Services offered a $5000 grant to get Project Ramp started. That money multiplied over the succeeding years and by 1991 the first 100 ramps were installed in only 7 years. The 200th ramp was built in 1997. Ramp 300 was completed in 2005.

Finally, on August 1, 2023, ramp number 400 was installed. Ramp number 400 was built for Robert Padley, a member of Council 6223 a District Deputy. Robert will undergo two knee replacements on August 8th.

Coincidentally, Robert served as a lead carpenter on dozens of ramps in the past, Hopefully, with successful surgery and rehab, Robert will be donating his ramp back to the project in a few months. Notably, many of the council’s ramps are built of recycled ramps and ramp materials.

More than 40 Knights have participated as volunteers during the last 40 years. More than 1200 youths have been involved as well. The Brother Knights are working hard to make sure that all disabled persons can have a quality ramp, mobility, and as normal a lifestyle as possible.

Deacon Gene Hausmann has overseen this program for 40 years and in 2017, Project Ramp won the Family Service Award from the Michigan Knights of Columbus!
