Storm Cleanup for the Cross in the Woods

Brother Knights across the great State of Michigan:

The Ice Storm which recently impacted Northern Lower Michigan did an incredible amount of damage to property and infrastructure across the Diocese of Gaylord from the Lake Michigan shore all the way across to Lake Huron. Among the properties affected were the grounds of the Cross in the Woods Shrine in Indian River. They have spent thousands already in removing big fallen and broken trees from the grounds as well as the high-hanging “widowmakers” from the canopy. Many Brother Knights have been asking how they could help in the recovery effort.

For many years, the Knights and Parishioners of the Cross in the Woods parish have organized a clean-up event to spruce up the grounds of the Shrine. This year, those sacred grounds took quite a beating from the storm – more than the small Council and small number of Parishioners can handle on their own.

If you are able and available, you are invited to join us at the Parish Hall (lower parking lot) on Saturday, May 10 at 9:30 AM for coffee and donuts, after which cleanup work will commence. Lunch will be served at 1 pm. Bring your gloves, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, pruning shears – appropriate yard cleanup tools. In the event of rain, the make-up day will be Saturday May 17 th

.

If you’d rather help financially, we suggest you go to the Diocese of Gaylord website and search for “ice storm” – you will find a secure payment link to the fund established by Bishop Walsh to assist all parishes which took damage from the storm.   The link can be found here or at the QR Code located below:   Diocese of Gaylord - Ice Storm Relief
