Sir Knights of Assembly 2696 recently honored the men and women of the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department.

At the Grosse Pointe Woods City Council meeting on Monday, September 14, Faithful Navigator Tim Berkesch, joined by John Ricci of St Paul on the Lake, presented a Knights of Columbus resolution supporting first responders, along with commemorative challenge coins the Knights had made for the department.

"We developed a commemorative coin which will be given to each member of the public safety team," Berkesch said. "We saw it fitting this year with the 250th anniversary of the country and the 25th anniversary of 9/11. We need to recognize these people as much as we can."

The resolution expresses the Knights' "deep appreciation and continued solidarity with all first responders" and their appreciation for "the families of first responders who provide critical support to their loved ones as they bravely confront the risks associated with their service." The Knights also committed to praying for "the health and safety of all first responders."

"I'm very pleased that the Knights of Columbus have offered these coins to our first responders. Nobody deserves it more than our first responders," said Mayor Arthur Bryant. Public Safety Director John Kosanke added, "We appreciate the Knights of Columbus' kind gesture."

Assembly 2696 represents Sir Knights from Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in Grosse Pointe Woods and St Paul on the Lake Parish in Grosse Pointe Farms.
